Juliet’s Corner: ARC Review: Layla’s Happiness by Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie, Ashleigh Corrin and The Princess and the Pea by Parragon Books and Dubravka Kolanovic

Hello, hello. We are here with a double trouble edition of Juliet’s Corner.

ARE YOU READY???

I talked about it on my Goodreads Monday post but I’m going through a bit of a reading slump which is affecting my posting and I’m also working a lot more since I am a single mom and the holidays are coming so the blog schedule might be slow and different. I apologize if comments and everything else are a bit wonky for a bit. I’m trying my hardest πŸ™‚

Okay, so the first book we have is an ARC from Edelweiss and I was super excited we were approved for it!!

Layla’s Happiness by Mariahdessa Ekere Tallie, Ashleigh Corrin (Illustrations)

Spirited and observant, Layla’s a child who’s been given room to grow, making happiness both thoughtful and intimate. It’s her dad talking about growing-up in South Carolina; her mom reading poetry; her best friend Juan, the community garden, and so much more.

Juliet’s Q+A

Me: What is Layla’s Happiness about?

Juliet: It’s about things that make her happy.

Me: What is happiness to Layla?

Juliet: Climbing a tree and purple!

Me: Do you like climbing trees?

Juliet: No because I can scrape mt knees and get hurt.

Me: What is happiness to Juliet?

Juliet: Painting and drawing!

Me: Painting what?

Juliet: A popsicle that has a bite on it! And Undertale characters

Me: what else makes you happy?

Juliet: Swimming!

Me: What would you rate this book overall and would you reccommend it to other kids?

Juliet: 10 HEARTS and yes, I would!

Me: Okay! Next book then!

Our next book is a fairy tale classic…it is

The Princess and the Pea by Parragon Books and Illustrated by  Dubravka Kolanovic

Underneath the mattress at the very bottom, the queen placed a teeny, tiny pea. One rainy night, Princess Polly knocks on a lonely prince’s palace door. But is she a real princess? The queen has a plan to find out!

Juliet’s Q + A

Me: What was this book about?

Juliet: The Princess and the Pea. It’s about the servants put a pea under the princess’s mattress under her mattresses to find out if she’s a real princess because princesses have soft skin.

Me: So is this a fairy tale?

Juliet: Yeah, it’s like Rapunzel and The Three Little Pigs and other fairy tales?

Me: What’s your favorite fairy tale?

Juliet: This is one of my favorites! I read it in first grade. I love it.

Me: What did you learn from this story?

Juliet: That you should never marry a cranky, old king. Never, ever. Ever.

Me laughing: Okay, okay. What would you rate this story?

Juliet holds up ten hands: BYE EVERYONE.
