I took a little break yesterday and didn’t update. I’m sure you all missed me dearly lmao. I’m back today with Juliet’s Corner! My beautiful friend Miri sent Juliet this book and I am so happy and grateful. Thank you Miri!!! The book this week is:
Sulwe by Lupita Nyong’o and Vashti Harrison

Sulwe has skin the color of midnight. She is darker than everyone in her family. She is darker than anyone in her school. Sulwe just wants to be beautiful and bright, like her mother and sister. Then a magical journey in the night sky opens her eyes and changes everything.
In this stunning debut picture book, actress Lupita Nyong’o creates a whimsical and heartwarming story to inspire children to see their own unique beauty
Juliet’s Q+A
Me: Happy November!! How did you like this book?
Juliet: I liked it!
Me: What was the book about?
Juliet: Being yourself.
Me: Can you explain more?
Juliet: She was really black.
Me: And in black you mean she was dark-skinned.
Juliet: Yeah.
Me: Okay, baby. You can relate to that because you’re also a little black girl. Was she made fun of in this book because of her skin color?
Juliet: Yeah.
Me: You know that’s very wrong right. You shouldn’t make fun of people because of their skin color
Juliet: Yeah, it’s not nice.
Me: It’s not nice at all. It’s very hurtful. What did you learn from this book?
Juliet: It’s okay to be different no matter what color your skin is or who you are.
Me: Did you like this book?
Juliet puts up two thumbs: I did like it. It has pretty pictures too!!

Me: Would you recommend it to other kids?
Juliet: Yeah, especially black kids. It’s okay to be a darker skin color!!
Me: Anything to say to anybody?
Juliet: Yeah, happy November.

Ahhhh this book looks SO CUTE, and I really hope my library gets it in, otherwise I’ll just buy it for them, dang it. It’s such an important story, and we just don’t have any little kids books that tell that, and it’s especially important for this area.
Love Juliet’s answers! Sounds like she enjoyed it!
