How was everyone’s Halloween?
Juliet was a…PIKACHU this year and it was extra cute. Our neighborhood starts trick or treating super late and there are no street lights so that’s always fun lmao. The weather called for lots of rain so everyone was freaking out on whether it would be pushed back or not but it was actually unseasonably warm and didn’t rain at all when we were out.
We were out for maybe 45 minutes and it was fun. It had rained earlier and when it rains out here frogs tend to come out and we saw a few hop across our paths . A few other things happened as well that made it well, I’ll say creepy. LOL, some people are just strange.
There are two neighbors who always do a bonfire and pass out candy to the kids at one house which I think is pretty cool and when we left their house we ran smack into this woman who was standing in the dark at the corner of the street smiling widely at us.
“Hi!” She said. “Our house lights are out so I’m here passing out the candy.”
“Um…okay.” Strange, I thought. Why not just turn them on then?
“Here you are, sweetie,” she said handing my daughter chocolate. “Oh, don’t you look adorable. I also gave you something to read.” She turned that smile back on me. “Have a great night!”
“Thanks, you too.” I took Juliet’s hand and we continued down the dark path.
Footsteps continued behind us. I didn’t want to but I turned around.
She. was. right. behind. us.
And she was still smiling widely. We walked faster.
Finally we turned a corner and out of the corner of my eye I saw her enter a dark house. I breathed a sigh of relief, my thumb had been caressing the mace on my keychain.
“Freaking weird.” I muttered.
I dug through my daughter’s candy and drew out the reading material she had given her. Not going to lie I intended to burn it. I was convinced it was an evil relic and she was a demon sent by Satan itself.
…Lady, are you kidding me???
Also walking back home something caressed my shoulder and the church bells sounded and I was like OH HELL NO, IT’S TIME TO GO.
Overall though it was pretty fun lmao. It did start storming pretty bad later in the night. So bad that schools are now closed TODAY because there is no power in some of the schools.
OKAY, but this is about a book review and as much as I love talking about myself and Halloween I also love talking about books. I said on twitter I wouldn’t post anything today but I can’t stay away from you guys. I love bothering you way too much.
I received this manga from my dear friend Bernard as a birthday gift so thank you thank you thank you! I had heard of it before online. It spoke to me. I mean, a tough yakuza turned house husband??? The DREAM MAN basically?
This is a slice of life manga which means that it’s not a set concrete story. You get short stories of the mundane day to day experiences. So we see the house husband, Tatsu, in his natural environment such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and being a general badass while he takes care of his working wife.
I’m not going to lie I went into this thinking there would be a story into how he came from being a hardcore gangster to becoming a doting husband. But that was my fault for not reading the description. It didn’t take away from the story at all and we are gradually getting to know more about him as a person because his former allies and enemies come looking for him and are just as shocked as we are.
This is a sweet manga packed with many layers. If you’re looking for something light and funny and a comic about a man tending to his gorgeous wife, this is most definitely the read for you.
