Book Review: Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper by J.L. Bryan

I have a confession that probably comes as no surprise to any of you.

I like ghost hunting shows.

Now, I’m not a huge pursuer of them like my father who can name 10 of them at the top of his head because he is IN love with them. I mean, the man DVRS each and every one of them religiously and growls at us if we dare question why he needs months and months of this backlog. No, my obsession does not run that deep.

I enjoy Ghost Hunters and I really love found footage paranormal films that feature ghosts. Ghosts have always fascinated me and I actually have a few ghost stories of my own. I’ll save that for another post however. Another time, another day.

Ellie Jordan traps ghosts for a living. The unwanted, the menacing, the dangerous. This client calls her because the ghost in question is all 3. At first Ellie thinks it’s a simple residual haunting but instead she is confronted by the house’s true evil and it doesn’t just want the family that now lives there, it wants Ellie as well.

This book shocked me. I wasn’t expecting much honestly but it was a lot better and spookier than I imagined and for that I’m grateful. Of course you have the dad who is all grumpy and ain’t no hauntings going around mmhm women in my family crazy and it’s not until shit gets real and in his face that he’s actually like oh shit. SIIIGH, listen, my last boyfriend is a huge skeptic. Like a real asshole I’m better and smarter than you skeptic and like I get it but you don’t have to be a nasty prick about it. This dad??? HIM, IMO they should have let him die and be the sacrifice but WHATEVA.

Ellie is awesome. She handles her shit and is TRAINING an apprentice at the same time. I mean hello?? Who knows if she’s even getting training pay for this??? Hazard pay?

The ghosts were honestly very creepy and the background behind what happened and why the hauntings occurred…Dude. The ending is satisfying as hell. I honestly just re-read it and :)))) fantastic. It’s so rare when that happens so I was very happy about that! I normally don’t like series but this will be a series I will be continuing because it’s fantastic and GHOST. HUNTING.

I also really like how Ellie wasn’t sexualized in the book. This is super rare especially when the author is a male sorry to say *shrug*. I was actually expecting another Laurel K. Hamilton instance where she turns into a super Mary Sue but thank god that was not the case. If you’re a fan of ghosts, ghost hunting shows, ghost hunting PODCASTS I would definitely check this out. And if you have any recs for any of the latter two please let me know šŸ™‚ Thanks, love ya.

  1. About 1.5 years ago, Jason and Steve (Ghosthunters) were hosting an event in a local haunted place that my son and I had tickets to – we were so excited. Then they had to cancel due to illness and were never able to reschedule. We were so disappointed!
