Hello! Welcome to my weekly installment of Series of the Week. Keeping up a theme of vampires this week, you see.
IT’S FINALLY FRIDAY. God, so I only worked one actual day at work since the first two were orientation and still I’m exhausted. It’s weird being back at a job where I actively help people. Enough about me though, let’s talk books.
This series is frustrating to me for a lot of reasons. I cannot say that I love it. This is solely due to the series completely going left after a certain number of books. Still though, I will always adore the books I did greatly enjoy and reading this as a teen made me fall in love with the paranormal urban fantasy genre.

Anita Blake is a necromancer. She raises the dead for a living and helps the police force out whenever they may need her for any monster hunting. This is a world plagued by the unknown. Vampires, lycanthropes, lamias. The whole deal. Things get kind of tricky in a universe basically lorded by the undead and Anita finds herself in a number of situations, mainly being recruited by and falling in love with a very hot vampire by the name of Jean Claude.
So there are about 25 books in the Anita Blake series but I can only reccommend Books 1-10. In the later books things get kind of…awful. The writing is messy and disorganized, characters do off the wall shit that makes no sense, and honestly Anita becomes a Mary Sue of epic proportions. She can do NO wrong.

I adore the world building in those first 10 books however. It’s interesting and you meet a variety of characters who you feel for. Anita Blake is at her best when she’s raising the dead and sneering at vampires. Also, her love interests are the hot undead. I mean, hello??
Yeah, this is my most try it if you dare Series of the Week post but I stand by it. It’s still a fun read and who knows, the later books in the series could be amazing to you. They’re just not my cup of tea.
Have you read this series? Thoughts, concerns, arguments? Lmao, let me know in the comments.
Thanks for mentioning how many volumes are worth reading! I’ve heard many times of how this series jumps the shark. It sounds like a tv show that has a bunch of great seasons then goes of the rails, lol. Great write-up on this series! I have Guilty Pleasures (I think it’s the first book?) somewhere.

I have not read it but have heard great things! It stinks when later books in the series just aren’t as good.
